Le Grand Bornand is a ski resort in the Aravis Mountain range, situated in the French Northern Alps, not far from Switzerland and Italy. The village is located in the territory of Annecy Mountains, in the Haute-Savoie department, at an altitude of 1000 meters. The area peaks at 2100 meters above sea level. The commune has notably remarkable belvederes, like the Mont Lachat summit with its most spectacular views of the region over the Aravis mountain range. The diversity of difficulty levels evolving at almost 360° around Mount Lachat, and the concern to open the most beautiful spaces and panoramas, including for intermediate level skiers, make it a popular playground for sports glide enthusiasts and lovers of a more contemplative skiing. This authentic ski resort was developed in the early 1950s around the village, which gives to the place a very charming atmosphere. Above all, in Le Grand Bornand you can practise all types of skiing, alpine skiing, nordic skiing and ski-touring, between peaks and fir forests, punctuated by a remarkable built heritage: chapel, old chalets and picturesque hamlets... The Nordic ski area offers 74km of perfectly groomed and maintained runs, from beginner to expert, that will allow you to discover a wonderful setting that combines the great outdoors, sliding on snow, cultural sites, and local agricultural life. There are also 2 biathlon stadiums, cross-country skiing and shooting, where you can practise and feel like a champion. The Aravis Mountain range is one of the places in the Alps where the rural way of life has continued. The economical activity in Le Grand Bornand is based on both agropastoralism and tourism. Le Grand Bornand remains one of the most agricultural village in Haute-Savoie, with about sixty farms which are producing goat and cow cheese. The most famous is « reblochon ». Still often, people have a double job here, pluriactivity is really one of the specific features in a mountain environment, even for young people. This consists of carrying out at least two activities during the year, either successively or at the same time. They will be ski instructors or ski patrollers in winter and farmers, plumbers, electricians or carpenters the rest of the year. There are also many small companies linked to wooden industries (chalet buildings and renewals), small workshops, artisans and craftsmen.
